Tetra Radio Products and Services
The offered TETRA radio system is based on proven Airbus Claricor TETRA radio infrastructure. Claricor is an IP-based infrastructure; that is, all communication between the various elements within the system utilizes TCP-IP via a 100base-T physical connection, connected to IP routers and switches in the normal way; in other words, a LAN (or WAN) based architecture. Designed to provide effective, clear communications between users of mission-critical systems and services.
Designed to a high level of System Reliability, Claricor is also a distributed system, which means that it contains no centralized switches, exchanges, or databases etc. All database type information is distributed across the entire network, to all elements. This means that failure of a part of the interconnecting network has only a local impact on the system. Additionally, it means that, for example, a radio base station will continue to operate, with all its features intact, even in the absence of any connection to the rest of the infrastructure. In fact, failure of the entire LAN connection (sub) system will merely isolate each base station, without restricting their local functionality.
The IP network which Claricor uses to communicate between its elements, may be either independent or shared with other services, since the highly efficient coding of TETRA means that the bandwidth required within the LAN connections is very low, at no more than about 380kbps maximum per 4 carrier base station. The IP network can of course be enhanced by good planning and by redundancy and reliability features such as OSPF and others. Claricor supports all recent features of TETRA, as defined by ETSI in the EN300-392-xxx series of standards; thus, Claricor can be expected to further improve planned and future features. Claricor also supports the recent ETSI LIP standard, which allows the efficient transmission of GPS positioning data via TETRA. LIP based positioning is also supported by all Airbus terminals (handheld and vehicle) which all contain a built-in GPS receiver. Claricor also contains an optional built-in positioning subsystem (an AVLS and APLS mapping display).
